Back from the dead in pure soap style

Good people, you have my humblest apologies for vanishing into the ether right before I went to Chicago. Unfortunately, what ended up happening was that I got very sick. We're talking deathly ill, with multiple rounds of doctors and medication, steroids, breathing treatments, and lungs that were initially not responding especially well to any of that. That said, I am alive. I have overcome all of that, and I am back. Let's talk about what we missed and what I had to catch up on because, while I was down, I spent most of it asleep with low oxygen levels.

Chase and Brooklyn's wedding was gorgeous, and I cannot say enough good things about how nice it was to see the wedding actually happen. Finn was a good brother, having Gregory and Violet there and Gregory and Tracy together was lovely. Everything about it made me happy.

That, of course, set up the next bit, Gregory's death, which was positively heartbreaking and exactly the right notes in terms of shaking up the canvas and setting up the next round of tragedies. His passing permanently altered the lives of the characters he affected. I really am sad that he is gone, but I think that the story line is richer overall for him having been there and left.

Is it me or are Finn and Alexis circling one another in a way that suggests they may give it another go? Not that I think he would necessarily cheat on his girlfriend.

Between Finn's grief and potential spiraling into alcoholism, which I hope they do avoid though I wouldn't mind if he got close because that would be some interesting character development on his part. I really think that he and Liz’s relationship could be okay, even if they are terribly boring.

I really don't know that Alexis would do well mothering a small child the way that Violet would need a mom. I just think Liz is a better fit in that regard.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Alexis is a fantastic role model and I think that she would do well in that sense. However, I think that she has ascended more into her Meemaw energy at this point and is not necessarily in a place to raise a young child. I could be wrong though. And I would love to see where the writers go with this.

I will say though, that the Ava situation seems to be heating up in ways that are wholly unexpected. I'm not sure what's going on that Ava Jerome seems to want to reclaim her place as the most hated woman in Port Charles. I don't know that that's going to be particularly healthy for her, given the number of people who are more than capable of violence in that city. And her ability to piss off pretty much everyone is becoming quite renowned. I do, however, love that we are still left guessing as to what our motivations are this far into the story because it feels like the writers are building something very significant. Let's just say they have earned my optimistic curiosity at this point and I have not written them off as terrible human beings and hacks as of yet.

I want to take a moment and Express how terribly heartbroken I am at the death of Johnny Wacker. I really liked Brando as a character and I had really hoped that Johnny would go on to do great things outside of soap operas. His tragic passing is just absolutely unfair, and I feel terrible for his family. I hope they receive peace & love and healing in time. I hope that his memory is a blessing.

And that is it for me this week, friends. I appreciate you being patient with me while I healed and got myself back together. Please forgive me again for vanishing without commentary, I will endeavor to do better in the future. I do hope that we will have tons to talk about next week. And so until then, folks, Happy Viewing.
